Plastic surgeon Bert van Doorn studied medicine at the University of Amsterdam and then fulfilled his military service in the Military Hospital in Utrecht. His surgical training began in Enschede, where he completed the preliminary training in general surgery, and was completed in Groningen with the specialization in plastic surgery.

What makes his career special is its breadth. After his training, he moved to Kenya, where he worked as a flying doctor in areas where good medical care was anything but guaranteed. That experience of working with limited resources but unlimited commitment has permanently shaped his view of the profession. After that, he worked for more than 30 years in plastic surgery at what is now the Albert Schweitzer hospital in Dordrecht.

Bert van Doorn combines the breadth of an experienced plastic surgeon with the involvement of someone who knows what it is like to work in diverse circumstances, from a field hospital in Kenya to a top clinic in the Randstad.
