What is face slimming with Botox?
Face slimming, also called masseter Botox, is a treatment where Botox is injected into the masseter: the chewing muscle at the side of your jaw. With intensive use, for example from lots of chewing, clenching or grinding, this muscle can grow and make your lower face look wider.
By relaxing the muscle, its volume gradually decreases. The result is a softer transition from your cheekbones to your jawline, giving your face a more oval rather than square shape.
No volume is added and your bone structure doesn't change, the effect comes entirely from relaxing the muscle itself. Want more definition in your jawline rather than less width? Then a jawline filler is probably a better fitting route, which the doctor discusses with you.
Who is face slimming suitable for?
A wider or angular jawline. You feel your lower face is wide or square, and would like a softer, more oval shape.
A strongly developed chewing muscle. You notice your jaw muscle feels firm, for example because you clench or chew a lot.
Teeth grinding or jaw tension. An enlarged masseter often comes from teeth grinding. In that case one treatment can tackle both your complaints and your face shape.

Before and after: what can you expect?
The first visible change usually comes after 2 to 4 weeks, with the full result after about 4 to 8 weeks. That's because the muscle volume decreases gradually rather than immediately, unlike Botox for wrinkles.
Your jawline still looks defined, but your face becomes slimmer and more refined. Chewing remains perfectly possible, as the muscle is relaxed, not switched off.
Downsides and risks
Mild, temporary side effects. A bruise or pressure at the injection sites can occur and usually disappears within a few days.
Patience needed. The result isn't visible straight away, so count on a few weeks before the effect is clearly noticeable.
Chewing strength may decrease temporarily. With a firm dose, chewing tougher or harder food can sometimes feel a little less powerful at first, and this recovers by itself.
Temporary effect. The result lasts 3 to 6 months on average. With repeated treatments the slimming effect can last longer.
