Ozempic is a prescription medicine with the active substance semaglutide, made by Novo Nordisk.
In the Netherlands it's registered for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Because semaglutide also lowers weight, doctors prescribe it under certain conditions within a medical weight loss programme.
Semaglutide is a so called GLP-1 agonist: it resembles a hormone your body makes that signals "you're full" after a meal. So you feel less hungry and naturally eat smaller portions.
Ozempic isn't insulin and it isn't a miracle cure. It's an aid that, together with lifestyle coaching, increases your chance of results. At Soap you always get it within a medical programme, never on its own.

How does Ozempic work
Semaglutide mimics the gut hormone GLP-1, which your body normally produces after eating.
That hormone does three things at once. It curbs your appetite via your brain, so you feel less hungry. It slows down how fast your stomach empties, so you feel full for longer. And it helps keep your blood sugar more stable, so you have fewer peaks and dips that cause cravings.
That combination means you eat less without constantly fighting your hunger.
Many people notice the effect on their hunger in the first weeks. The medicine takes part of the struggle off your hands; you do the rest together with your doctor and lifestyle coach.

When are you eligible?
Medical weight loss isn't for everyone who wants to lose a few kilos. At Soap you only start after a medical assessment by our doctors, and a BMI from 27 applies.
It's intended for people who can't lose weight with diet and exercise alone and for whom being overweight poses a health risk.
Are you pregnant, breastfeeding or trying to conceive? Then Ozempic isn't suitable; the same applies if you're hypersensitive to semaglutide. It's also not the right choice for purely cosmetic reasons, for a few kilos.
During your free consult the doctor looks at your health, your medication and your goals, and decides honestly whether it suits you. If not, we think along with you about an alternative.
How the process works

You start with a free consult, at a store or via video.

Where most clinics only steer on BMI, Soap uses the BRI to also measure your fat percentage, muscle mass and body contour. That gives a more precise starting point and makes your progress more visible, for example whether you keep your muscle mass. ONCE A WEEK
Ozempic dosage and use
You use Ozempic once a week, on a fixed day, with a prefilled injection pen. You start with a low starting dose of 0.25 mg, so your body can get used to it.
Then the doctor increases the dose step by step, for example to 0.5 mg and 1 mg, and further if needed. Which strength and pace suit you is decided by the doctor, based on your health and how you respond.
You inject it under the skin of your belly, thigh or upper arm, each time in a slightly different spot. The pen is small and the needle thin; most people find it easy to do.
Store an unopened pen in the fridge; once in use it keeps for a number of weeks at room temperature, check the leaflet for the exact period.
Forgot a dose? Take it within the period stated in the leaflet, or skip it and continue on your fixed weekday. If in doubt, call your doctor. Never adjust your dose yourself.

Does Ozempic exist as a pill, tablet or patch?
No. Ozempic only exists as a weekly injection with a pen, not as a tablet, pill or patch.
If you come across "ozempic pills", "tablets" or "patches" online, that's not Ozempic: it's often counterfeit or a completely different product, with unknown contents and real health risks.
Only use what a doctor prescribes after assessing your health. That way you know exactly what you're taking.
