Lift drooping mouth corners

With drooping mouth corners, the corners of your mouth point down, even when you're not smiling or talking. It's a small change with a big effect on how you come across: your face reads as stern, tired or unhappy sooner, while you don't feel that way at all.

Often a line runs from the mouth corner to your chin. Those lines are called marionette lines, and they're part of the same story. That's why our doctors always look at the mouth corner and at the line below it.

Three things play a role. First, your cheeks and the area around your mouth lose volume over the years, so the mouth corner gets less support and drops.

On top of that your skin naturally produces less collagen. It gets thinner and springs back less, so a mouth corner that first only went down with a frown stays there.

And then there's muscle strength. Some muscles actively pull your mouth corner down. The stronger they pull, the more your mouth corner points that way.

Without surgery our doctors work with two options. A filler with hyaluronic acid goes in small amounts into the marionette lines zone, just below and beside your mouth corner. That gives the corner a base to rest on again.

Botox in the mouth corner zone works differently. It relaxes the muscles pulling on your mouth corner, giving the lifting muscles more room. Around the mouth the doctor doses carefully on purpose, so your smile stays yours.

Does your mouth corner clearly droop? Then a corner of mouth lift is the most direct route. Under local anaesthetic the surgeon removes a small piece of tissue on the inside and outside of your mouth corner and lifts it subtly. The procedure takes about half an hour.

Besides a friendlier look, it's also about comfort: a drooping mouth corner can cause small cracks, irritation or eczema, and a corner of mouth lift can reduce those complaints.

The result is often nicely visible after about a week. After around six weeks you see the final result.

A filler in the marionette lines zone starts at €350. Botox in the mouth corner zone costs €95 with Azzalure or €110 with Relfydess. The No Trace Face® Lift starts at €1,500.

A corner of mouth lift costs €999. That includes everything: your intake, the local anaesthetic and all aftercare and check ups. A corner of mouth lift isn't covered by your health insurer.
