Forehead Botox

The horizontal lines running across your forehead come from raising your eyebrows. In younger skin they disappear again as soon as you relax, but over the years they stay more often. Botox can precisely relax the forehead muscle. Not sure if it suits you? During a free consult the doctor looks directly at your forehead and brow position.

SMART SCIENCE

What does Botox do in the forehead?

Forehead lines come from the frontalis, the broad muscle that raises your eyebrows. Every time that muscle tenses, the skin above it folds. Do that for years, and those folds slowly set into your skin.

Botox partly relaxes the frontalis, so raising your eyebrows puts less force on the skin above and existing worry lines soften. Because the muscle folds less often, the skin in between gets a chance to recover, so new lines set in less quickly too.

At Soap this is never about a completely motionless forehead, but about balance: less deep lines, while keeping your natural expressions. Want to start more subtly? Then baby Botox with a lower dose can be a good first step.

KNOW THE DIFFERENCE

Forehead line or frown line: what's the difference?

This is the most common confusion around this treatment, and the difference matters because the approach per line is fundamentally different.

Forehead lines are the horizontal lines running across your forehead, caused by raising your eyebrows. That's what this page is about.

Frown lines are the vertical lines between your eyebrows, which develop from contracting when frowning or concentrating. Looking for information about those? Then read more about the frown line.

At Soap forehead and frown are combined in one treatment, precisely because they work together so closely.

Many clients combine both zones for a harmonious, calm overall look. During the consult the doctor looks at which zone or combination suits your wishes.

Who is forehead Botox suitable for?

  • Visible lines at rest. Your forehead lines stay even when your face is completely relaxed.

  • An unintentionally sceptical or tired look. The lines on your forehead sometimes make your face look sceptical or tired at rest, while that's not how you feel.

  • A preventive approach. You see worry lines just becoming visible when you raise your eyebrows, and want to prevent them from becoming permanent.

Important: when treating the forehead, the doctor always looks at your brow position first. Because the forehead muscle holds your brows up, an unwanted effect can occur if your brows already sit lower.

How the treatment works at Soap

  1. Consult. The doctor assesses your forehead, brow position and expressions, and decides the right dose and injection points.

  2. The treatment. Several small injections at strategic points in the forehead, done in a few minutes. You can carry on with your day afterwards, as long as you avoid heavy exertion and exercise for the first 4 hours.

  3. Result. The first effects are noticeable within a few days, the optimal result after about two weeks.

SEE THE CHANGE

Result and recovery

You usually see the first relaxation of your forehead after a few days, and the final result settles after about two weeks. Your forehead then looks smoother at rest, without your face feeling stiff.

You still raise your eyebrows, just less strongly, so the lines don't set so deeply into your skin. With very deep, longer standing grooves the doctor may suggest a combination with filler for extra support.

Downsides and risks

  • Mild reactions at the injection sites. Slight redness or a small bump can appear on your forehead, usually fading within a few hours to a day.

  • Expressions feel unusual at first. Because your forehead moves a little less, frowning or raising your eyebrows can feel a bit unusual in the first days.

  • Brow position is decisive. Your brows may feel a little heavier at first. To prevent this, the doctor always assesses your brow position first and adjusts the dose accordingly.

  • Report blood thinners. Using blood thinning medication? Mention it during your consult, and the doctor will advise you beforehand.

  • Temporary effect. Count on about 3 to 5 months before the effect wears off and you're ready for a new appointment.
