Which eyelid correction suits your look?
A heavy or tired look doesn't always have the same cause. That's why eyelid surgery at Soap doesn't start with operating, but with looking carefully. Depending on what the surgeon sees, one of these treatments suits you:
Upper eyelid correction: for droopy upper eyelids, a heavy or pressing feeling or a limited field of vision. The surgeon removes the excess skin through an incision in the natural crease of the upper eyelid.
Lower eyelid correction: for bags, dark circles and excess skin under the eyes, for a rested and fresh look.
Ptosis correction: if your upper eyelid droops due to a weakened or stretched lifting muscle. The cause then isn't in the skin, but in the muscle.
Surgical Brow Lift: if the heaviness around your eyes actually comes from above, due to a low brow position.
Having upper and lower done at once is possible too, with its own rate on the price list. You don't have to choose beforehand: during the free consult the surgeon looks at your eyelids, brows, skin and symmetry and honestly tells you which procedure suits you. Your face, your goals.
What does eyelid surgery do for how you look?

Droopy eyelids make you look more tired than you feel. Eyelid surgery takes away that tired look and lets you shine again: fresher, rested and a little younger. Upper eyelid correction also solves vision problems and the heavy, pressing feeling of droopy upper eyelids. Lower eyelid correction reduces bags, dark circles and excess skin.

How your eyelid surgery works, step by step
Eyelid surgery is a small surgical procedure, and the whole process feels that way too.
Before: you start with a free intake of 15 to 30 minutes. The surgeon examines whether your complaints come from excess skin or something else, discusses what you can expect from the procedure, recovery and result, and takes photos of your eyelids. Want to go ahead? Then you schedule a date straight away.
During: the surgeon marks the skin to be removed and performs the procedure under local anaesthetic. You don't need to fast, you stay fully conscious and feel little to nothing. An upper or lower eyelid correction takes about half an hour, a ptosis correction about an hour.
After: you recover for half an hour in our recovery room with a healthy juice and get a Soap bag with everything for a good recovery. You go home the same day, just don't drive yourself. After about seven days we remove the stitches.

Is eyelid surgery covered by insurance?
GOOD TO KNOW
Short answer: almost never. Eyelid surgery hardly ever qualifies for coverage by your health insurer anymore, even if you have maximum supplementary insurance. Insurers apply strict conditions, which can be hard to find in the policy terms. Ask your own insurer, then you know where you stand.
Procedures with an aesthetic goal you pay yourself, even if they cause complaints. Only with a clear medical necessity is coverage sometimes possible, and that usually goes through your GP and the hospital. For eyelid surgery at Soap you don't need a referral: you plan a free intake yourself and the surgeon assesses whether the procedure suits you.

BACK TO YOU, FAST
Recovery after eyelid surgery: one day of rest
Only on the day of the operation do we really ask you to rest: on the sofa or in bed, and preferably no light household tasks either. That advice applies to just one day. The day after you can do everything again, including strenuous work and exercise.
Washing and showering is fine, as no bandage is applied. Swelling, sensitivity and a tight feeling are part of normal recovery and gradually decrease. After about seven days we remove the stitches and after about half a year the skin has almost fully recovered, with scars that are then barely visible.
A question between check ups? Simply contact the clinic, no need to wait. The recovery after eyelid surgery is written out day by day.
